According to legend, the very first pilgrim on the Camino de Santiago was a hermit living in Asturias. He saw strange lights in Libredón forest that lead him to the tomb of St. James the Apostle. This was has since become known as the Camino de Santiago’s Original Way, or the Camino Primitivo. The connection between the Asturias region of Spain and the Camino runs deep, and many still consider the routes that run through it to be the true Caminos.
Whatever you believe about the origins of the Camino, the routes through Asturias are some of the most beautiful.
