Camino Luggage Transfer Services

Walking or cycling along the Camino de Santiago is a great experience but, what about your luggage? What can you bring if you have to carry everything on your back? As part of our services, Follow the Camino offers a full luggage transfer from hotel to hotel.

The luggage transfer during your Camino is a great service we offer for all our walking, cycling and horse riding holidays. This allows you to walk or cycle lightly with a day-pack only (including essentials like a bottle of water, rain gear, maps, and your phone), and enjoy the view without the effort of carrying your whole holiday on your back! The vast majority of our customers choose to use this service.

All you need to do is leave your suitcase, labelled with your name, at the hotel reception at 8am each morning when you are heading off for the Camino. It will be transferred to your next accommodation and will be waiting for you when you arrive. Yes, it is that easy! Yes, it is that easy!

Authentic accommodation and local food

Our accommodation is selected based on a number of criteria, including location, comfort, services, price, and character. We always try to book accommodation that is both on or near the Camino route you are walking and also close to the historic centre of where you are staying.

This is facilitated by the fact that the Camino route usually goes through the heart of towns and cities. In larger towns, which are usually at the beginning and end of each section, we book hotels of a 3-star standard. In smaller locations between the larger towns, we choose hotels or guesthouses of a 2-star standard. However, there could be some exceptions to this rule. For example, in some small villages our accommodation options depend on local infrastructure and the only possibility may be a non-rated guesthouse. This does not mean it is not up to our standards only that it does not have an official classification, which is usually due to the remote nature of parts of the Camino network.

If our first choice is not available, we will use other accommodation of the same standard and price. If there is no such accommodation available, we may contact you to offer either an upgrade at a premium or a downgrade with a refund, again based on local infrastructure in each area. We are determined in our motto: to provide our customers with the best options available on the Camino. Each night expect traditional meals or tapas prepared with the best fresh, regional, and seasonal produce.

On a Follow the Camino tour, we reserve a table at the end of each walking day for you and your party at one of our pre-tested and loved restaurants. We always give preference to hotels with their own restaurant and chefs so you don’t have to wander too far, and restaurants awarded with a quality label and/or recommended by recognised guidebooks. For your convenience, our services cater for all special dietary requirements and allergies. Simply advise us of your specific needs at the time of booking and we will work with our partners to accommodate you as best we can.

“We would love to thank you for the wonderful arrangements you have made for my group. They all loved the hotels and the meals that you arranged! It was marvellous! Thomas (Organiser, Group of 16)

“We have just returned from the Camino … The organisation was excellentWe also liked the accommodation, and were quite impressed with the choice of the hotels, especially where cleanliness is concerned.” (Winston, Camino Frances)

“We want to tell you how very, very much we enjoyed walking the Camino de Santiago… We were surprised at how nice the hotels were—they were almost all much better than we expected—with nice comfortable rooms, lovely surroundings, and great food. One of our favourites on the Camino was the Casa de Acivro in Rua.” (Nancy and Cliff, Camino Frances)

Certified Camino guides

Some of our tours are guided, depending on customer requirements. We only use the best and most knowledgeable Camino de Santiago guides to send along with our groups. All our guides are bilingual (English and Spanish), very pleasant, and solely there to enhance your Camino experience. They know every bit of the Camino and might even show you some places along the Way that you would never find by yourself!

Most of our professional Camino tour guides have many years’ experience walking and guiding on the different routes along the Way of St James. Some have worked as professional guides internationally, in places as far afield as New Zealand and Nepal. They will have plenty of stories about their adventures to tell you along the way and may even inspire your next adventure. It is very common for us to receive letters and emails from happy customers after a Camino trip telling us delighted stories about how their wonderful guides improved their experience. Here are just some examples of the feedback we get regularly about our Camino tour guides.

“I just wanted to drop a note and let you know what a great experience I had using your company’s services for the Camino de Santiago … The hotels along the route were lovely; the food was great; and best of all was our guide, Elaine Jones. She was such a joy to be with. She was so knowledgeable, charming, and knew how to give us our independence on the Camino, while also checking in with us throughout our daily walks … She is a great asset to your company.” (Ellen, Camino Frances)

We have just returned from the Camino and I must say that both my wife and I enjoyed the Camino very much. The organisation was excellent, and the group of people who were with us were very nice and good company. We also thoroughly enjoyed the walk. I must mention how excellent our guide, Noel, was. What a lovely man, always ready to help out. He led the party very efficiently, always with a smile, and nothing was a problem for him. He is a great guide. We will certainly recommend your company to our friends, and maybe we will do the walk again next year. Thanks for everything and best regards.” (Winston, Camino Frances)
