Our Sustainable Supplier Pledge
We work with locally-owned accommodation and transport providers along the Camino routes, and encourage our clients to eat at independent restaurants and engage with local experiences. This helps keeping spending within the communities our clients walk through.
Many of our supplier relationships span several years — we work with the same family-run hotels and guesthouses season after season. We see these as long-term partnerships, not transactional arrangements.
Since 2023, we have sent annual sustainability surveys to the accommodation providers in our network to understand their environmental and social practices and share information on responsible tourism.

Annual sustainability surveys to our supplier
The survey covers environmental and social practices across our network in Spain, Portugal, and France, including energy and water consumption, waste management, labour conditions, and local sourcing. In 2026, we received 42 completed responses. As our supplier base is much larger, we are working to increase participation in future surveys to build a more representative picture.
Key findings:
Environment
- 95% separate and recycle waste
- 68% have taken steps to reduce single-use plastics
- 90% measure their energy consumption in some form, with 44% using renewable energy sources such as solar or wind
- 80% offer local or seasonal food products
- 75% offer a vegetarian or vegan option at breakfast or on their menu
- Carbon footprint measurement remains an area for development: only 2% measure it with documented records, and 68% do not measure it at all
Labour practices
- 75% have formal employment contracts for all staff
- 68% have a weekly hours limit and rest policy in place
- 49% have a formal mechanism for staff to report grievances or concerns
We share results back with respondents who request them, and use the data to guide the resources and responsible tourism information we share across our network.
