Discover the most remote and stunning parts of Ireland on the gorgeous Kerry Camino. This 215km loop takes you around the Inveragh Peninsula, over mountains, across farmland, and through woods, and along boreens before looping back to the beautiful town of Killarney.
Despite Kerry being home to some of the highest peaks of Ireland, this walk generally follows flatter routes. You will pass through isolated countryside, as well as walk on a variety of terrain from tarmac roads to mountains, to forests and national parks.
You will cover the full Kerry Camino distance in 9 days, on some of the most remote trails in Ireland. Because of this, the walking itinerary is fixed and you cannot shorten walking distances or change the Kerry Camino accommodation. Additionally, food options are limited during some walking days, so walkers must be prepared to pack food with them.
Kerry Camino Highlights
- Killarney National Park: This 26,000 acre stretch is home to Muckross Abbey and Torc Waterfall, both well worth a visit. Look out for red deer and wild goats s you walk through this green haven!
- Carrauntoohil: As you walk the Kerry Camino you will keep the highest peak in Ireland, Carrauntoohil, in your sight as you cross mountainous trails.
- Dingle Peninsula: You will follow a trail taking you past the stunning Dingle Peninsula, with its famous Inch Beach. If you are brave enough, take a plunge in the Atlantic Ocean for a break!
- Sneem: Enjoy the relative hustle and bustle of this town after your quiet walk. Sneem is a regular stop on coach tours of Kerry, so you can chat with people from all over the world visiting Ireland.
- Kenmare: Your final stop before the end of the walk, Kenmare is a cool town with a lot of pubs and friendly locals looking for the craic! While here, check out the Kenmare Stone Circle and the harbour.
Your walk starts in Killarney, a tourist hub in the west of Ireland. On the shores of beautiful Lough Leane, the town is one of the main stops on the scenic ‘Ring of Kerry’ and has plenty to do before and after your walk. This includes the town’s 19th-century St. Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney National Park. and Muckross House, Gardens & Traditional Farms.
