Geneva Way

On the first section of the Geneva Way (also called Jacob’s Way), you leave Switzerland and make your way through the beautiful French countryside with the distant Alps as your backdrop. Look forward to the scenic lakeside city of Geneva and the beautiful Rhône-Valley. After passing the river, you will climb Mont Tournier and finish at St Genix sur Guiers.

The second section of the Geneva Way will take you from St Genix sur Guiers through rural France to Chavanay. Look forward to cute villages, picturesque landscapes and local wine.

The final section features the mountains of Pilat, with leisurely strolls through the French countryside. This portion of Geneva Way will end in Le Puy en Velay, a beautiful and historic town, where the local cuisine and wines can be actively experienced after a full day’s walk.

One of the newer, more beautiful routes to the beginning of the Camino de Santiago is the Geneva Way or Via Gebennensis. It connects Geneva in Switzerland with Le Puy-en-Velay. On this route, hikers and pilgrims will experience rural France in all its beauty. Enjoy a reasonably easy walk through rolling green countryside beside crop fields and among grazing cows. While you are walking, soak in the diverse French culture and fully immerse yourself in gastronomic traditions that go back hundreds of years.
