About Us

Follow The Camino

Follow the Camino has been leading the way since 2006 and was the first-ever tour operator to operate the Camino de Santiago or Way of Saint James. Today we are the leading walking tour operator along the routes heading for the city of Santiago de Compostela, often copied but never matched in our expertise.

We have organised tours for thousands of pilgrims and travellers on the Camino de Santiago, coming from all over the world. They walk and cycle along at a pace that suits them after being supported through the planning process by our expert team.

Each of our unique routes has different lengths and points of interest along the way, and difficulty levels. All our routes can also be customised to your fitness levels and needs (we can alter your itinerary with an extra day of walking or rest, for example). You travel a reasonable and manageable number of kilometres each day. Each night you stay in carefully selected, authentic accommodation. Savour unique traditional food and wine. Soak up the culture and energy of the areas you visit in a truly authentic way. Experience the magnificence of the Camino for yourself.

Our History

In 2006, our founder Umberto di Venosa fell in love with the Camino de Santiago after his first pilgrimage. He had previously focused on a wider range of walking and cycling holidays across Europe through the One Foot Abroad brand – our sister company. When he realised how many people were looking for guidance and support to walk the Camino routes he decided to walk it himself.

Umberto enjoyed the Camino so much that he was inspired to help bring this fulfilling experience to as many people around the world as possible.

He invented a new approach to this ancestral pilgrimage, respecting its spirit and promoting its values while also enabling others to create an itinerary seamlessly. He wanted to make it more accessible, enjoyable and achievable for everyone.

That’s how Follow the Camino was born! We now offer a wide range of customisable trips on the Camino de Santiago’s many routes that cater to everyone.

The Follow the Camino Team

Our small, professional family of Camino enthusiasts comes from around the world and speaks a wide range of languages. The team’s diverse backgrounds bring different skills and unique ideas to the way we work. Plenty of our staff have walked the Camino de Santiago themselves, or other walking holidays. They understand walking holidays and can give you the best most up-to-date advice for your journey.

Our Camino Planners manage all your bookings from start to finish to make sure your experience is seamless. Our expert Camino Sales and Reservations Agents will help you plan your dream active holiday and support you through your whole pilgrimage, so all you need to do is tell us what you want and we can create it for you.

Our Marketing Team keeps the website and our social media profiles up to date with interesting and relevant news and information to help you choose your ideal adventure. And our Software Developers work to ensure you have the most seamless experience possible when using our Customer Area.

Our Mission

Follow the Camino’s mission is to organise meaningful and seamless active holidays that our clients love. We want to create incredible, fulfilling memories for our customers, while supporting the communities we travel through, measuring our environmental impact, and contributing to the future of responsible and inclusive travel.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to connect people with the Camino — to guide them through nature, away from the noise of everyday life, and towards an experience that is genuinely their own. We measure and take responsibility for the environmental footprint of every trip we organise and for the communities along the routes we serve. We are a business with its own constraints and contradictions, but while the current economic system encourages endless growth, we want to explore other possibilities — ones that balance the realities of a changing climate with ordinary people’s access to meaningful travel. We do this by giving the best possible attention to the people we guide, promoting responsible travel practices and supporting locally-owned businesses along the routes we serve. This purpose is reflected in our Sustainable Tourism Policy, our B Corp certification, and our commitment to the UN Global Compact and EU Sustainable Consumption Pledge.

This purpose statement is approved by Umberto Di Venosa, CEO and Founding Director, One Foot Abroad Ltd t/a Follow the Camino.

Our Commitments

Human Rights

We are committed to respecting human rights, as defined through international frameworks, including the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the International Bill of Human Rights, and the International Labor Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. Respecting human rights is integral to our company’s purpose.

Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI)

At Follow the Camino, we believe that the transformative experience of walking the Camino should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their background, identity, or circumstance.

We are committed to fostering a culture of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion across everything we do — from how we hire and support our team, to how we design our experiences for travelers, and how we engage with the communities along the routes we serve.

Within our organization, we strive to build a workplace where every team member feels valued, heard, and empowered — where opportunities are equitable and differences are celebrated.

Within our experiences, we are dedicated to designing and offering travel experiences that are welcoming and accessible to people of all abilities, backgrounds, nationalities, and walks of life.

Within our community, we commit to engaging respectfully and equitably with the local communities, cultures, and traditions that make the Camino what it is — ensuring our presence creates shared value and mutual respect.

This commitment is approved and championed by our executive team and it’s reflected in our policies, hiring practices, supplier relationships, and customer experience design.

Accountability for this commitment is assigned to Umberto Di Venosa, CEO, who keeps the executive team informed on progress.
