When preparing for a multi-day walking or cycling trip on the Camino, many travelers have questions. They often think about the important services they might need. They often ask about cafés, places to refill water bottles, and toilet facilities along the route.
That is exactly why we include a Facilities Table for each trip.
Why facilities information matters on the Camino
On many Camino routes, you’ll walk between towns and villages, often through rural or remote areas. In some sections, services can be limited, and that’s actually part of the experience.
Walking away from busy places and into nature is one of the reasons people fall in love with the Camino. Still, a little awareness and planning go a long way in making your day more enjoyable.
Knowing what’s available (and what’s not) helps you decide how much food and water to carry, without overpacking.

What the Facilities Table shows
The Facilities Table gives you a general overview of what you may find along the route itself during your trip, helping you plan ahead and know what to expect.
- Food: Indicates the availability of places where you may be able to eat or buy food along the way. This can include cafés, bars, restaurants, or small local shops where snacks can be purchased.
- Water: Shows whether water is generally available along the route. This may include cafés or bars where you can refill or buy water, as well as public fountains or natural water points where available.
- Toilets: Toilets are usually linked to food availability, as they are most commonly found in cafés, bars, or restaurants along the route rather than in standalone facilities.
- Marking: Refers to how well the route is signposted. This can include milestones, yellow arrows, shells, or other Camino waymarks, depending on the route, making navigation easier along the way.
The Facilities Table is designed as a planning aid, giving you a realistic picture of the services you may encounter while walking, especially in quieter or more rural areas.
Helpful guidance for your Camino
This information is provided in good faith to help you plan your trip, but it should be used as a guideline rather than a promise.
Availability can vary depending on several factors, including:
- Seasonality
- The region you are walking in
- Time of day
- Weekends and public holidays
- Weather conditions
For that reason, we always recommend using the Facilities Table together with:
- Your guidebook/walking notes
- Your maps
- Your own experience and personal needs

How to use the Facilities Table in practice
Before setting off each day, take a few minutes to look at the Facilities Table and note the level of availability shown for your route (Plentiful, Enough, or Scarce). This simple overview helps you plan realistically for the day ahead, without overthinking things.

Used this way, the Facilities Table isn’t about adding complexity to your Camino. It’s simply a practical tool to help you feel prepared and confident, while still enjoying the freedom, simplicity, and sense of discovery that make the Camino so special.
