Looking for an authentic experience on the French Way? Why not try traditional markets? Food markets can be one of the best ways to experience authentic Spanish/Galician culture. As you may know Galician cuisine is famous for using fresh produce so no better place to experience this than in an authentic market. Markets along the French Way of the Camino de Santiago offer more than food, stalls sell a range of gifts, souvenirs and trinkets. It’s very easy to loose track of time wandering around a market at your leisure and doing a spot of shopping.
Here are the days of the week where you will find interesting markets on the French Way:
- Estella – Fridays
- Logrono – Sundays
- Navarrete – Wednesdays
- Najera – Thursdays
- Santo Domingo – Saturdays
- Granon – Wednesday and Saturdays
- Sahagún – Saturdays (Sahagún is a particularly nice one covering several streets. Check it out here: http://vimeo.com/40639567)
- Astorga – Tuesdays
- Ponferrada – Saturdays
- Melide – Sundays
